
In August, the Australian government, lifted the national terrorism threat level from “possible” to “probable”. This change indicates the risk of a terror attack is greater than 50% in the next 12 months. This change is due to the increase in more Australians “embracing extremist ideologies” and an increased risk of ideological terrorism and politically motivated violence.
This is particularly relevant to venue operators, as globally, venues that attract large groups of people known as crowded places, such as sporting venues, exhibition centres and shopping centres, are recognised as the most likely and desirable places for a terrorist attack to occur.
Unsurprisingly, this serves as a strong reminder for all venue operators to audit what is in place currently and what needs to be revisited.
